Our roots go deep and long in the photo industry and our learning’s in that industry have shaped the company operations today. In 1949, District Photo was founded as a small black & white photo lab primarily developing photos for the press. Through the next 50 years the business grew into a large wholesale photofinishing lab serving mid-Atlantic retailers and a national mail order film business. The consumer photo business guaranteed overnight service and our attention to prompt order management came from decades of fulfilling this very guarantee.
In the late 1990′s, DPI acquired a photo business in the UK and transitioned from a mid-Atlantic analog lab to multiple state-of-the-art digital labs shipping millions of photos worldwide every day. In 2001, the DPI family of companies acquired Snapfish, a top online photo service. That event spurred our growth into ink and sublimation printing. The new digital photo world brought enormous change and opportunity. Personal publishing and custom gifting platforms were added to our vast silver halide capability.
District sold Snapfish to Hewlett Packard, but have continued to fulfill Snapfish orders and add new online and brick and mortar wholesale customers in all of our manufacturing platforms. A natural expansion of our capabilities brought a large school yearbook business and professional photo services to our portfolio. Today, District Photo is one of the largest direct-to-consumer custom product and photo fulfillment operations in the world.
